TECNOLOGIA E INNOVAZIONE

Challenge Title

Rethinking Credit Recovery through Responsible Automation

Name: Tecnologia e Innovazione

Link: www.tinnovamag.com

Sector: Publishing & Media – technical magazine on innovation and industrial technology

Location: Pisa, Italy

Description: Tecnologia & Innovazione is a magazine that reports on the most important technological innovations in Italian industry and business. The magazine provides an inside look at the main processes of change in the leading sectors of Italian manufacturing: from automotive to fashion, from food and beverage to furniture and automation.

Context

Credit recovery is an essential process to ensure the financial sustainability of many organizations. However, it currently requires numerous hours of repetitive and low-value- added work from personnel. While necessary, this manual activity offers limited human engagement and diverts resources from more strategic and creative tasks. Automating or optimizing the credit recovery process could significantly increase efficiency and free human resources for higher-value activities. At the same time, introducing automation raises important ethical, social, and environmental questions about its broader impact and long-term sustainability.

Challenge

How can Artificial Intelligence support a responsible and sustainable automation of the credit recovery process? Students are invited to approach the challenge not merely as a technical development task but as a critical and strategic analysis that explores the balance between efficiency, responsibility, and sustainability. The work could focus on three main directions:
1. Social impact analysis: evaluate how automation might affect stakeholders (employees, clients, communities), identifying ethical, social, and environmental risks and opportunities.
2. Sustainability metrics: propose indicators to measure the long-term effectiveness, responsibility, and sustainability of the automated solution.
3. Evolution strategies: envision future scenarios for using and expanding the product, identifying ways to leverage collected data responsibly and sustainably.

Optional/Possible Guidelines

● Map the automation process using AI tools for decision support and workflow optimization.
● Develop an ethical and sustainability assessment framework for AI-driven automation.
● Explore data minimization and transparency strategies to ensure responsible use of sensitive information.
● Propose communication and training strategies to support staff transition and engagement.
